Our second bush camp would take us into the Mara, in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy. The Porini Mara Camp consisted of only 6 tents, of which our group occupied 5 so we basically had this place to ourselves.

A beautiful common area where the staff would sometimes join in a game of cards, and a wonderful fire pit to enjoy drinks before dinner. But the best part about this camp was that we could request “two buckets” for our showers. After dinner we would go back to the tent and just a few minutes later we would hear from outside “bucket number 1”, and it seemed he just stayed there because almost immediately when you finished you would hear “bucket number 2”. It was great though - a nice hot shower.

The game drives here were amazing - animals everywhere, especially big cats! Lions on the first (and every) drive. Sometimes families (prides) of 10-15 cats.

We also spotted a lone male Cheetah one morning who we followed for maybe 30 minutes. He was incredible! And yes, we were about 10 feet away!

Many, many lions to see while we were here. On pride is said to include 30 members! We also saw many elephants, giraffes and zebra, and even a few hippos.

Again, this was an awesome camp which everyone enjoyed. The staff are all fabulous. We had three Land Cruisers and our driver was Jeffery with Dixon spotting. They were a great team. We also enjoyed morning bush breakfasts several times, and a bush walk one morning…with two armed guards!

Great camp, wonderful people, and next we head to Entim Camp on the Mara River. (And of course a little time for shopping along the way!)

All the best,
Tim & Eileen
