This will be a short post (I promise), but there are several pictures (and a couple of videos), so I thought I would do this one separately.

We took a private transfer by van from Zagreb to Split, with a couple stops along the way. Our guide Marco was great, and was full of information about every place we visited.

The first stop was a small town called Rastoke, which has several rivers that come together in the town forming beautiful waterfalls. Really amazing to see how much water is flowing in mid-August through this town.

After Rastoke, we head to Plitvice Lakes National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage site. It encompasses 73,000 acres, and the main attraction is the 16 interconnected lakes with waterfalls in between. Travertine and limestone round throughout the park and create amazing dams between the lakes. The minerals in the water and stone combine and the stone can “grow” by a few millimeters per year, which makes for beautiful waterfalls throughout the park.

There are trails everywhere - I think we did about 10-12 km on this day with Marco, and our friends Connie and Paul. It was a warm day, but worth the effort for sure.

There is one large lake where a passenger ferry takes you from one end to the other, and gives you a bit of a break fro the walking. But this is a beautiful hike if you ever have the opportunity.

From Plitvice Lakes, we had about another 2 hours in the van to get to the town of Split on the sea. A beautiful sunset and view of the harbor from our room, to get ready for the next adventure.

Make sure to check out all the photo’s in the album related to Waterfalls.

All the best,

Tim & Eileen
