LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN !!

We arrived in Sorrento after a 3 hour drive from the Rome airport, so a bit tired but much to see here. Famous for it’s Lemons and of course Limoncello, it is a very happy place. We happened to be here during a National Holiday and resulting 3-4 day weekend, so many Italian tourists visiting, and a street market was set up all weekend.

Our small hotel Il Nido, was maybe 3-4 km up the hill by shuttle bus (free), but we found a beautiful walk down to town, maybe half the distance, using old stone streets that passed through lemon and olive orchards. (Yes, we usually took the shuttle going back up the hill).

The beaches are generally down below the cliffs, but in Marina Grande, there is a small little fishing village where you can find a spot on the beach. Sofia Loren made a movie here in 1955 - “Scandal in Sorrento”, and there are many reminders throughout the village.

The town of Sorrento is very walkable with many shops, tavernas and restaurants. A walk down several switchbacks and stairs will bring you to the main beaches, where there are restaurants that offer lounge chairs, changing huts and of course, food and drink.

A good town to stay in and explore the coast by boat - many tours to the Amalfi Coast and the island of Capri - and generally a good value. Seeing the coast from the water is a must, and from the looks of it, taking the bus could be and adventure that I don’t need to have.
