We decided to do a little walking/hiking around Lezzeno, so using our All Trails app, we found the Strada Regia trail. This is the ancient road connecting Como to Bellagio, and on the western shores of the lake all the way into Switzerland and was used by the Romans for trade, and by it’s armies. Today, you can take the trail to the top of the mountains behind Lezzeno, or (for us) just above the lake and along the shoreline.

Where we began took us straight up for about half a mile. Beautiful views from up here, and then a trail that came down gradually until we ended up in town. I think we passed Hansel and Gretel’s home along the way...

Parts of the trail were very steep, but manageable for sure. Several times we saw cables above us, and we could finally see what they were used for - taking firewood down the mountain by zip-line! This must be where it all started!

Our hike took us down the road for a bit, and we passed the home of Eugenio Molinari - check out the video I added of him driving one of his boats when he was about 72 years old (83 now). Very famous for his racing boats on this lake and around the world. Pretty amazing guy. (P.s. - I figured out how to add YouTube videos, so I also added one of Tadeusz from Florence - check him out as well).

A bit more hiking with some great scenery along the way, and now headed back to the Nest on The Lake where we will have dinner at their family owned restaurant, The Stone House.

The next morning, we woke up to see a couple of guys practicing for the local races that are held every Sunday.

We had a great time on Lake Como, and are looking forward to returning - maybe closer to July than April, so we can swim and paddle board and kayak. On our way to Milan now for a few nights, and then on to Spain.

Check out additional photos in the album for Lake Como.
