Here’s a little post for you from our home base in Korcula, Croatia. Spent a (mostly) wonderful day on a little boat, exploring some of the islands between Korcula and the mainland. The boat - just maybe a 14’ RIB with a 40hp outboard - was excellent for the 2 of us. A great way to celebrate our birthday’s and anniversary.

Headed out about 10AM and after cruising past Orebic town on the mainland peninsula, we found a small bay off one of the many islands to anchor and swim for awhile. The water is crystal clear and about 80-82 degrees - fabulous!

After a nice swim we head to Stupe Island and Moro Beach. This is just a small islet in between Korcula and Orebic, with a restaurant, beach chairs, a swing, and music. A great place to spend the afternoon. We chose to tie to a buoy and swim to shore. Grabbed a couple loungers and relaxed for a couple hours here and enjoyed a nice lunch of octopus salad and a cheese plate. Food was great - yes, overpriced - but hey, it’s a rock and everything has to come by small boat. A great place.

We swim back to our “yacht” and head to another small bay, off of Badija Island, where there is an old Franciscan Monastery (no longer in use). A great spot for another swim, and maybe a bit of a nap!

Finally, we head toward home, but first with a drive-by of old town Korcula - one of the best preserved mid-evil cities in all of Europe.

Then we head into our bay to return our Luxury Liner - only to be greeted by the Policija - what??? Guess they thought I was going too fast, too near the shoreline. Of course I’m “nervous nelly” trying to get all the necessary documents to the cops - meanwhile, someone else on our yacht (I won’t release names) is laughing and asking if she can take pictures. Oh my! Anyway, $100 later (cash, and thank goodness I had it) and we were on our way, with yet another wonderful anniversary to remember.

And as they say at the end of the movie “Overboard” (Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell):

”It’s a helluva day at sea sir!”

All the best, from the Policija infested waters off Korcula!
